[lvaf] Singers needed – Anti-protest songs – Sept 24th [Scanned][Spam score: 25%]
As part of The BasementArtsProject’s latest group venture “SPEAKEASY” I’m looking for singers/folky types to get involved with a work to be presented on the show’s opening night of Saturday 24th September.
‘Songs of Acceptance and Approval’ uses antonyms of the term’ protest’ to describe a theme running through a collection of songs which donot aim to condemn and rally, nor champion and encourage, but rather express a resigned and consenting attitude to the status quo. This may be due to theauthor/artists’ satisfaction in their situation or maybe an apathetic disillusionment.
These are not songs I have written, nor are they even written about or for this event; they are existing
songs by various artists, themes and contexts, and as such will more than likely not have previously been associated with each other beforehand. I hope to draw attention to the non-attitude they share; not to criticise, but to examine what they have in common, and what the artist in each case considers
the best path of inaction.
If you are a singer/guitarist/whatever, and feel you would like to contribute by covering an as-yet-undisclosed song in an acoustic but nonetheless fervent manner, please get in touch. The overall effect is to create the effect of a voice that is stout of heart but weak of will, an avid do-nothing and opponent of upset.
